About Painted Prairie

Painted Prairie is one of the Denver metro's most distinctive newer master-planned communities, built on the eastern prairie of Aurora with a design philosophy that sets it apart from the typical suburban subdivision. The community is neo-traditional by design — a deliberate revival of older town-planning ideas (homes with front porches set close to the sidewalk, pedestrian-friendly streets, buildings oriented toward shared public space) paired with current construction methods and a sustainability focus.

Parks and open space anchor the plan. Painted Prairie was awarded Best Landscape of a Community nationwide in 2022, and the layout shows it: a 22-acre central park anchors the community, with a series of smaller pocket parks threaded throughout so nearly every home sits within easy reach of green space. More than 30 acres of parks and open space run through the community, linked by trails built for walking and biking.

The community has its own emerging Town Center — an urban, walkable core intended to bring dining, retail, and gathering space into the neighborhood rather than pushing it out to a distant strip mall. Combined with the front-porch streetscapes, it gives Painted Prairie a genuine pedestrian orientation that's rare in newer Colorado development. An award-winning event series runs through the year, from warm-weather farmers markets and movies in the park to a fall Harvest Fest and a December Prairie Holidays celebration.

Home construction is spread across nine builders — Century Communities, David Weekley Homes, KB Home, McStain Neighborhoods, Pulte Homes, Remington Homes, Risewell Homes, Toll Brothers, and Tri Pointe Homes — offering more than 75 floor plans across a wide range of sizes and price points. That builder variety is one of the practical advantages of shopping a community like this: several builders competing in one place, with model homes clustered for easy comparison.

The location is far-eastern Aurora, positioned on the prairie with open views toward the Rocky Mountain front range and quick access toward Denver International Airport and the E-470 corridor.

Painted Prairie is established enough to have real community life already — thousands of residents, built parks, an operating Town Center — while still actively building out, so newer sections and additional parks are still coming online. For someone considering it, a local expert helps with exactly the decisions a multi-builder new-construction community demands: how the nine builders compare on quality, finish, and price for similar floor plans; which homesites sit closest to the central park, the trails, or the Town Center; how the HOA and any metro-district taxes affect the true monthly cost; and how Painted Prairie stacks up against the other large Aurora master-plans nearby. That kind of side-by-side guidance is hard to assemble from individual builder sales offices, each of which only represents its own homes.
