The neighborhood climbs from the waterfront up toward the mountains, and that elevation change is a big part of the appeal — ocean and bay views open up as you go higher, with lush green hills behind you. The coastline here has a rocky, Mediterranean feel, and the water tends to be noticeably clearer than the beaches a bit further north.

Upper Conchas Chinas rises above the highway toward the hillside. For everyday dining, nightlife, and shopping, the Romantic Zone is about a 3 to 4 minute drive or a 20-minute walk from lower Conchas Chinas along the coast or highway. Upper Conchas Chinas, depending on how high you are on the hill, usually means a car, Uber, or taxi for those trips.

The lower section sits right on the coastline, with clean beaches good for swimming and a rocky shoreline worth exploring. The walk along the coast connects into the Romantic Zone, where most of the area's dining, nightlife, and shopping are concentrated. The green mountains backing the neighborhood also make for a scenic setting for walks along the hillside streets.
